I’ve had the opportunity to be part of many different teams working to create and enhance online experiences, capabilities, and services.
What I love most is that I’ve been able to build so many great relationships while creating some really cool stuff along the way.

Leveraged best practices from past winners of Nielsen Norman Group’s annual international design award for the top 10 intranets.
Designed draft wireframes and site maps, then hired an experienced UX researcher to lead our effort to identify improvements to the design and development before we launched.
(this was when I became passionate about UX)
Submitted our finished site to NNG’s selection committee, and we were soon delighted to learn that we were chosen to receive the top 10 intranets award, taking our place beside P&G, Cisco, Verizon, and other winners.

Strategy & Planning
I've discovered that I’m good at taking a rough idea and transforming it into a tangible strategy, design, or plan.
I love starting with a blank piece of paper and asking “What if?”.
My approach involves asking lots of questions, with the goal of understanding real stakeholder needs, not just what they think they need.
Led teams in agile UX design projects, serving in various roles including vp, director, program manager, project manager, product manager, and design team lead.
Customized training materials developed to educate stakeholders on the UX agile process.
Educating stakeholders on the process include developing and sharing materials like this.
Inputs and deliverables for agile UX follow best practice to document only as much as needed to get the project to the next phase or to meet governance requirements.
Led design-thinking workshops for teams new to these concepts and processes.
Research for Usability & Accessibility
One of my favorite experience-design activities is usability research.
No matter how good we think a design is, we can always make it better by asking our users to try it out. Then we watch what happens and listen for their underlying needs.
Conducting user studies is critical for learning about what we may have missed and identifying areas for improvement.
Design success also requires seeing what people appreciate and where the experience easily flowed (aka, “if it's not broken, don't fix it”).
Hands-on usability research experience includes formative and summative assessments such as A/B testing, hotspot analysis, card-sorting, qualitative research such as interviews and observational sessions, and quantitative research such as hot-spot testing, search terms analysis, click-path analysis, funnel drop-offs, and more.
Conducted and analyzed online hotspot activity and card-sorting studies to establish new site structure and navigation.
Conducted heuristic analysis of consumer experience for new ticket-ordering flow.
Conducted stakeholder research to understand persona-driven card-sorting to establish priorities and hierarchies.
Interviewed dealer stakeholders to define customer journeys, decision points, and other persona-driven factors.
Experience Design, UX, UI, IA
Most of my professional roles have been in leadership positions, so I’ve had to carve out time for hands-on work as project timelines allow.
This approach has enabled me to stay current with evolving technologies and techniques.
Samples below represent a mix of hands-on work and collaborative projects for designing information architecture, wireframes, and prototypes for portals and mobile apps for a variety of personas and use cases.
Information architecture design and analysis for persona-guided professional consumer experience.
Guided in-flight team on engaging with client to define next phases of experience design, and provided design and research support.
Led design-thinking sessions with key stakeholders, white-boarding concepts and testing hypotheses across multi-day workshops to align on strategies and direction.
Designed mid-fidelity wireframes and user journeys for conducting usability research with dealers representing target customer personas.
Researched user needs and defined journeys, interactions, navigations, and interface designs for consumer-facing healthcare mobile app for Apple iOS and Android.
Read more about my role as chief product officer at Empass Healthcare.
Defined user journeys and scenarios to design UX flows, navigation, IA hierarchy, and interactions.
Hired an experienced visual designer to add UI enhancements.
Researched user needs and defined journeys, interactions, navigations, and interface designs for healthcare-provider web browser portal.
Provider-controlled data drives patient profile and appointment screens seen by users on the mobile app.
Redesigned an employee portal home page based on draft requirements and user feedback.
Improved portal experience by redesigning navigation and simplifying how much information appears on each tab, per draft grayscale wireframe.
Improved complex table experience by moving filters to the table header and creating a more visually appealing interface that also adheres to commonly accepted table design patterns.
Content Writing & Editing
My passion for the written word goes way back, both as an avid reader and a creator.
My creative outputs for the world of work have included web content, proposals, reports, presentations, intranet content, research plans, and more.
On a personal note, I wrote and self-published a stop-smoking book (see below) plus I have several books in various stages of flight (or at least collecting the feathers for flight one day).
Lead Writer & Founder
Nonprofit wellness coach directory and content platform
Teacup Wellness Nonprofit
Hands-on UX/UI design, content, and creation of the site via WordPress and plugins.
Wrote content for entire site, plus all the messaging, support materials, process guides, job descriptions, contracts, and more. Bloggers and others have contributed, as well.
Wrote 501c3 submission, which was approved by the IRS in the first round.
Writer & Producer
Give it up! Stop smoking for life.
Wrote and self-published stop-smoking book with audio CD. Conducted outreach and interviews, speaking with former smokers who were survivors of related illnesses.
Established Alyeska Press LLC as the publishing firm, securing an ISBN and UPC, so book could be offered on Amazon and listed in the Library of Congress for distributors and publishers.
Won 3rd Place for Personal Growth Award category in 2005 CIPA awards.
This creative venture lost money, but I am still an ex-smoker and it has helped a few other people quit, so I consider it a wild success.
